List of Best Business Books

#1. Think and Grow Rich - Napolean Hill

Think and Grow Rich is one of those books which influenced most of the 20th century and paved the way for success for the most successful person in modern history.
This book is the result of author Napolean Hill's painstaking efforts of 20 persistent years and over 500 interviews’,. It was possible only because of his deep desire for alleviating sufferings from the lives of common mortals and brings happiness in society.
This book is a must read for individual motivation and to achieve great success.
You can imagine the popularity of the book as it has sold over 70 million copies worldwide for nearly three-quarters of the century.
This book talks about 13 vital ingredients for success in most convenient way possible.
  • Desire: We inherently possess capabilities to achieve anything if we have intense burning desire and obsession to achieve it. This kind of desire is not just merely wishing.
  • Faith: It is critical to have faith in things you wish to achieve. Napolean hill has suggested that faith is a state of mind which can be induced by repeated affirmation and positive thoughts to the subconscious mind.
  • Auto-suggestion: This is related to the second principle; it is the process of being able to focus your mind on your intense desire until your subconscious mind accepts it as a fact.
  • Specialized knowledge: Author suggests while covering this principle, that you must have specialized knowledge in your domain to be rich (This was quite down to earth suggestion).
  • Imagination: This principle reminds us that how powerful our imagination is, and how we can tap our imagination to achieve great things in our life and let you and others be amazed.
  • Organized planning: You must have definite plan to achieve your goal.
  • Decision: This principle tells us that you must be decisive in your life; in fact, one of the many attributes of successful individuals is that they are quite decisive in their life and never make procrastination their companion (long term or short term).
  • The power of mastermind: Although I am skeptical to this principle where the author suggests the coordination of knowledge and efforts in harmony with the group of like-minded people.
  • Sex Transmutation: Just when you thought that it couldn't get any weirder it comes up with this principle. I do not agree with this principle I feel this principle is outdated. (Many successful persons are not married like Nikola Tesla, Vivekananda, etc.)
  • The subconscious mind: Our subconscious mind is unbelievably powerful if we use it in right way.
  • The brain: This principle again reiterated by Mr. Hill states that brain is very powerful organ made up of billion of cells. Nothing much useful information though.
This awesome book "Start" by author Jon Acuff who has also authored wall street journal bestselling book "Quitter" which becomes the linchpin for average people to bridge the gap between their dream job and daily boring 9-5 Job.
In a nutshell, author Jon Acuff brilliantly forwarded his big thought on how you can snap the attitudinal shift from being average to awesome by living your life with a sense of purpose and undergoing the five stages of life that are mentioned in the book.
Note: Whom I would love to recommend this as the top business book?
Such is the brilliance of Jon Acuff. I can recommend the book to my 20-year-old sister who is evidently puzzled as to what she should do with her life. I can also recommend this to a 70-year-old man who thinks that he hasn't learned anything new in a while.
Also, without hesitation, to my dad who does something he doesn't relish on a regular basis (9-5 Job).
My learning from this book:
  • Starting point is the only point that can be controlled. : Neither you can predict the end, nor you can accurately define the process, but you can always be the boss of the starting line. So you should be a starter.
  • Author says that, don’t look for your purpose in life rather always has some purposes and live life with it. : He is not the avid fan of "finding your ultimate purpose of life"(so called eye opener rational thought)
  • Just drop some things that you don't like : Jon suggests that while on the course of your life you should explore many new things, some of them you won't enjoy doing so rather than sticking with it and giving yourself a headache, just drop it from your life, double the efforts in whatever you enjoy doing (you love)

#3. Lean Startup - by Eric Ries

Each and every day enthusiasts and passionate group of individuals are starting their new ventures in every corner of this planet.
Most of them are loaded with an arsenal of ideas to provide service which can amaze the masses, but most of them fail to endure the uncertainties of the market because they miss the trick of continuing their startup.
Precisely the reason Eric Ries comes in with this his best book on entrepreneur Lean Startup to address these very same issues.
Since he has tasted many startups failure, and he is an excellent example of rags to riches, he is most suitable to suggest ideas to rectify in your plan of action.
This book will be a great deal helpful only if you get rid of your stubborn nature and keep aside your know-it-all attitude and start learning what every business owner should be doing to establish their business in 5 years.
Let’s take a peek inside?
Eric Ries has formulated five principles that are vital to the success of startup. His book is considered to be one of the best books for entrepreneurs, helping them learn.
Startup should follow the mentioned approach:
  • Get the idea first
  • Discover your marketplace
  • Measure all your data out of this production. It can involve your profit, customer base, deviation from your goals, etc. It should be prepared keeping in mind your realistic situation of startup.
  • Most critically learn from this data and start this feedback loop as quickly as possible.
  • Innovation: Although this might sound cool at times, innovation could be boring but most important stages so you must put your best effort in this process.
Few learning from Eric Book
  • You are not the only entrepreneur in this world. They are omnipresent.
  • Entrepreneurship is not just confined to innovation; rather it is all about management. Eventually, the ultimate goal of your (entrepreneurship) is to build a sustainable and stable enterprise.
  • The startup is not build to merely make money out of it or being more generous in serving your clients/customers; rather it is to learn that how to make it sustainable and a lasting enterprise.
It is one of the top entrepreneur books, by PayPal co-founder billionaire Peter Thiel, for someone who wants to create their own business and explore new ways to create products and services.
He also co-founded billion dollar company Palantir.

#4. Zero to one by Peter Thiel

This book will give you a bundle of information since it's coming from one of the best thinkers on business ideas. Also, this will give you the ability to look at a situation from multiple angles. These are precisely the reason it is touted as one of the top books for entrepreneurs.
Peter Thiel starts it with famous question
"What important truth do few people agree with you on?”
He answers this question by stating that technology will be a far bigger player than globalization for shaping our future.
And he also states that innovation is the key, contrary to what most of the individuals think about startups.
Key teachings in the book:
  • He says startup is a bunch of enthusiasts who have the courage to shape the future of humankind differently. He refuted the common idea and facts of the startup community and gave his insights otherwise.
  • That was absorbing and expresses his understanding and vision to think beyond. Monopolies are not bad. Peter has given many references to validate his points (American Airlines vs. Google comparison etc.)
  • Rather focusing on valuation of your startup, you must ask yourself this golden question. :  “Would your business be around 10 years from now?”
This book is filled with knowledge that a consultant can charge millions for.

#5. Rich Dad Poor Dad - by Robert Kiyosaki

Know what an asset is? How to acquire them? Want to become rich?
The problem is that people are not taught properly, and many don't even know the answer to what their assets are?
To make your task easy and come straight to the point, author of this top business book, Robert T Kiyosaki explains the mindset and thought process of rich and poor people.
This top business book, Rich Dad Poor Dad, is the story of author Robert T Kiyosaki’s early years spent in Hawaii and his biological (poor) dad and not biological (rich) dad.
Earlier Kiyosaki was forced to live with his poor dad (biological father) who was highly educated working for the government.
And throughout his life, he remains indebted and lived in poverty and left debts to his family while his rich dad (not biological) goes on to become the richest person in Hawaii and left millions of riches to his family after death.
Rich dad was the father of author's best friend and has never even passed eighth grade.
By this illustration, Author is indicating, and we must take this as inference and learning, that formal education can make you scholar and intellectual but can never give you financial skills.
This book, Rich Dad Poor Dad, is all about mindset, and all anecdotes are indicative only towards our mindset.
I was also expecting that this book will give me some tips and tricks or shortcuts to becoming rich, but it was a totally different experience.
My learning:
  • Poor and middle class work for money while a Rich person has financial skills; their money works for them.
  • You should have knowledge about finances : The author stresses to become financially literate by learning the difference between asset and liability and always focus on your asset acquisition and growth.
  • Your asset is your true income : Most people confuse their profession with income and their income to riches. Kiyosaki says that your profession is not your income rather your asset is your true income because earning larger money from your profession will only ensure high taxes, expenditures, etc.
  • Work to learn and not to earn: You should focus on learning a bit about everything rather than spending a lot of time on specializing at one.
  • Rich invent money

#6. The $100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau

In his book, The 100 Dollar Startup, Chris Guillebeau shares the hurdles of having a small business (startups) and gives us tips on how we can overcome all those hurdles and turn into a successful business
This book is a result of author’s efforts of identifying and interviewing more than 1000 people who grew their small business to a greater success.
If you want to learn knowledge about startups from just one single book; then this can be your one book.
Chris talks about small business and how it can turn out to be a greater success after the initial capital of even merely $100 by using the power of technology and internet.
You can break yourself free from this shell of 9 to 5 job and still earn handsome money and become financially free.
The Larger portion of the book is covered by examples that will ensure that you don't doze off and can relate yourself to most of the situations.

He has used case studies and based on his case studies formulated the step by step framework to meet your passion and skill.
My learning from this book:
  • Passion is not the complete story:  Passion will not lead your small business to success you also need expertise in your domain, and then you must associate yourself with like-minded persons with whom you can start off. Then eventually you should identify your consumer base and make strategies to expand your consumer base because every business require customers.
  • Don't over think in planning: He stresses on very simple yet valid points by stating that you may make thousands of plans, but ultimately action will always beat your plans. You should focus more on your actions rather than planning.

#7. Produced by Faith - by Devon Franklin

This book may appear to you as if it's coming directly from some movie and sharing some fairytale. Before you make any judgmental calls and stick to your thinking, ponder over it again!
Yes!
This book, written by Hollywood Executive Devon Franklin, illustrates vividly about how you can live your life without compromising your faith and how your faith can become your asset in bringing vast fortunes in your life.
He shares anecdotes from his life and will tell you how faith has worked wonders in his life, and he has become highly productive and efficient person in his respective competitive industry.
Author Franklin has made this parallel filmmaking process with the faith-making process with God.
He puts his words strongly by stating that if you commit yourself to God and focus on your career, then you can become unstoppable in your professional life. He goes further and states that even your faith will become the catalyst for your professional growth and greater success.

Even he thinks by aligning yourself with God, you will get directed by God to find your true purpose and passion in life, and that will become your greatest professional advantage.
In this very informative and amazing book, you will get some insightful and deep thoughts.
He is answering questions like:
  • How to be rock solid on your faith without compromise?
  • How to work with people who don’t belittle your belief?
  • How to elevate your productivity and career to next level?
  • "To get where you want to go, you’ve first got to become the person that God wants you to be." : this line was one of the takeaways by me from this book.
We all are made up of our habits. Your patterns express your character and effectiveness.
To make my point crystal clear I would quote Aristotle "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act but your habit".
If you notice then you will come to this conclusion that most famous books have been written on your self-improvement and enhancing productivity in last two centuries.
In his book author Stephen Covey illustrates that if you want to become successful, then it's inevitable that you will have to identify those unproductive habits of your and undergo the painful process of changing your habits.
He mentioned seven habits that could make this paradigm shift where instead of looking from outside-in you will start looking inside-out.
  • Be Proactive:  This meaning of being proactive, you won't find in literature dictionary, but quite prevalent in management dictionary. The author explains that proactive means you take complete responsibility for your life. You can assess your progress by examining your words and the way you talk.
  • Begin with the end in mind: Being self-aware about the direction in which your life is heading, and an action plan to make it happen.
  • Put first things first: We may have many things to do, but effective people always prioritize their tasks.
  • Think Win/Win: Once you get the grip of first three habits which was focused on victory on yourself (intangible victories) you are ready to lift yourself from tangible victories.
  • Seek first to understand then be understood: Before giving advice to other people, we must first listen to them very carefully and then only offer suggestions and insights.
  • Synergize: Wait for your perfect moment. All those habits that you put in your life will ultimately lead you to this perfect moment (highest kind of work) you were waiting for.
  • Sharpen the Saw: The author explains, it means renewing yourself each day in all aspect of your life. Be it physically, mentally, socially or spiritually.
Here the key to applying those seven habits is by being ridiculously honest with yourself and focus on one habit that will eventually prompt you to apply others.

#9. Rich Dad's Guide to Investing - Robert Kiyosaki

Thinking about getting rich? All you need is brain and a brilliant idea. Recently I read this book "Rich Dad’s Guide to Investing: What the Rich Invest In, That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not Do" by Robert Kiyosaki.

#11. The Four Hour Work Week - By Timothy Ferriss

It doesn't matter if you are not born rich, money can be multiplied depending on "what you do," "When you do it," "where you do it" & "with whom you do it" this is called freedom multiplier which you will find only in best entrepreneur books.
To stay rich one should be cautious of where, when & how much to invest.

#12. Rework by David Heinemeier and Jason Fried

This world is becoming depressing and monotonous as people don't like to experiment with new things. As soon as you share a new idea with someone, their first reply is that this idea will not work. Don't feel depressed by their thinking; start doing something which you like.
This book motivates us not to be belittled with the constraints, take them as a blessing in disguise as it will teach you to manage in what you have got.
It encourages you to take small steps, so you don't make big mistakes which make this one of the best business books.
Make people come to you instead of reaching out to them, in other words, build an audience and earn their loyalty. They will respect you more & build trust with them.
Try to share knowledge with your audience so that they stick with you because other businesses focus on selling not teaching, in this way you will form a bond with people. Once you have made this bond, they will become your fan, and maybe one day they will buy your product or service.

The author's advice to young entrepreneurs:

  • Commit less & deliver more.

#16. How to licence your million dollar idea

This book can probably change your way of thinking.
How to start your million dollar idea was originally published in 1993. Now in its third edition, this book is a cash cow for budding entrepreneurs.
This book will mainly deal with how to protect your brand or idea with or without patents and how to not get a "NO" for funding.
This will even help you enhance your creativity, skills and will also give advice on how to protect your idea and license.
All the advice given is already tried and tested by the author and other people who have created business empires. You will also find all the experience of successful entrepreneurs and businessmen as of how they goofed up, what they did to reach on top and how they became successful.
The book I am talking about is "START WITH WHY: How great leaders inspire everyone to take action" by Simon Sinek.
A must read for every budding entrepreneur to become a successful person.
Simon Sinek is a British/American author, motivational speaker, and marketing consultant. He is the author of three books including the 2009 best seller "START WITH WHY."
This book is one of the very few books which deal with a very fundamental topic of how to improve as a leader.
The book deals with a basic principle "WHY"?
  • Why did the company start?
  • Why do people buy from a particular company?
  • Why people follow some leaders religiously?
It will not provide you with tips and tricks as of how to improve as a leader, but this book is all about core values.

The author very beautifully quoted examples of Steve Jobs, Martin Luther King Jr. and the Wright brothers. Although they all are from a different field but they did have one thing in common, that is "WHY."

Most of the big business firms nowadays focus on what they sell rather than that they should focus on "why." Simon uses a concept of Golden circle which starts with "a why" then "a how" and in the end "a what."

Sinek was very good in explaining that not only "WHY" helps the sale of the company but it also helps the employee. This is one of the most positive entrepreneurial books you will find in the market. This book will help once successful entrepreneurs to come back on track.

#18. Creativity INc. Overcoming the unseen forces ....

"If you give a good idea to a mediocre team, they will screw it up. If you give a mediocre idea to a brilliant team, they will either fix it or throw it away or come with something better" -Creativity Inc.
Written by the co-founder of Pixar and the president of Disney Animation, Edwin Catmull,  Creativity Inc is another gem of a book
This book was written in 2014. This book is basically for managers but it is not a guide on how to be a good manager. This book is for those managers who want their employees to excel creatively, and pursue the goals of the company without getting burdened by it.
This book will take you on the journey of how great minds behind Pixar worked, how the journey started and the problems they faced.
Edwin has brilliantly defined how a creative environment is being made. He also explains how to thrive for originality and have a flexible environment with contribution from each pyramid of the organization?
You will find a lot of personal stories of Edwin himself about success and failures.
You will be able to connect with the stories, and this book will take you on a journey you have never gone before. It is a journey of creativity, originality and passion for changing the world.
It has very eloquently covered how to be a successful manager without really going into a traditional way of doing it.

#19. Choose Yourself by James Altrucher

Are you mediocre? Are you an employee of a company with a schedule of 9am to 5pm and want to get out of it?
Do you sometimes feel that you belong somewhere else but were forced to take up a job just to follow a conventional career?
All these answers lie in this masterpiece "CHOOSE YOURSELF" written by James Altucher.
In the book, James has stated that how an individual can follow his heart and choose a career that is less conventional and is not depended on the remote control of a senior official (manager, CEO, boss whatever you call him...!)
This book clearly states that one should learn new skills and try to sell them instead of getting paid for a job get yourself paid for a skill. Leave the traditional method, try new things, and learn from each and every experience.

This book is mainly a self-help book that is better than any other book in this category. I would strongly suggest all the young individual and entrepreneurs to give this one a read.
Do you want to be an entrepreneur? Do you want to be an owner of a multi-million company? You think obtaining all this easy?

#21. Three Feet from Gold - by Sharon

This one is a classic.
Written by Sharon Lechter and Greig S. Reid, This book is considered one of the best books for entrepreneurs in the current scenario.
The title of the book was inspired by one of the cult classics Think and grow rich by Napolean Hill. This is about reporters taking interviews of famous people. (I see so many people finding success in other peoples success, i love this new niche of making money)
This book is all about inspiration. This book teaches us few things which I would like to share with you.
  • Determination was the one thing that was common for all the people that were interviewed. They never backed down from any challenge.
  • Passion, all the people who were  passionate about their work. Also, that should be the case with each and every one of us.
  • Good counseling is another important factor.
  • Good circle, this is one of the most important things that is required by each and every budding entrepreneur to have, a group of positive people around them.
This book is a must for each and every aspiring entrepreneurs. It will teach one of the most important lessons of life i.e. "NEVER GIVE UP."
This is one of the best entrepreneur’s books that will guide you in your journey to success. I have learned a lot from this book, and I will strongly suggest you go for this book.

#22. Millionaire Fastlane by MJ Demarco

You are in charge of molding your future. Furthermore, you are the one who is mainly responsible for outlining whatever remains of your life.
DeMarco shares his experience of building his web organization and after that how he managed to retire at 33 to become a mogul. He additionally shares a few tips on how you may have the capacity to accomplish the same.
Things that you will learn from this book:
  • There is very broad line between producer and consumer, so always think about a bigger picture, trying to produce something rather than consume something.
  • Like a triangle (not the Bermuda) fortune have three points, and you will be amazed to know that none of them is related to money.
  • Eventually, you should make your salary independent of your time that means your salary should not bound you for a period of time.
As soon as you understand these points, you will realize that your car is getting speed and changing to fast lane.
Stay away from moment’s delights. One way to do this is to make an arrangement; be less inclined to spend your cash on to stuff that you do not require. You ought to construct a heap of money since this will place you in charge and also help in well being.
Many books were written by Dale Carnegie - a public speaker and author. Out of his 11 books, this became the best-selling entrepreneurship book, selling over five million copies throughout the author’s life and more than another ten million since then.

#1. Fundamental Techniques in Handling People

If you want some favor, be polite, and nice. There is an old saying “Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you not because they are nice, but because you are.”
The next secret to handling people is honesty and appreciation! Yes, these two powerful words can change the world. And to do that, start giving hope and genuine appreciation.

#2. Six ways to make people like you

Be a good listener, and give others chance to speak for them. The most powerful weapon is smile, when you smile half the work is done. So always remember to smile, doesn’t matter what mood you are in. Try this and you will able to satisfy other people.
Treat everyone that they have something special and give importance to them. And remember “Words have meaning and names have power” so always remember their name.

#3. Win people to your way of thinking.

Silence is the golden word, so if you’re in any world-class argument, avoid it by the being silent. By doing this eventually you are winning that argument.
Everyone has their opinion, so give respect to others opinion, never say no to their faces, and try to be polite. If you are wrong, admit it quickly rather than justifying it. And try to understand other people’s point of view, don’t jump to the conclusions.

#4. Be a Leader: How to Change People without Giving Offense or Arousing Resentment:

If you find any mistake in other people's work, first give them some appreciation and then give some honest feedback, and you will see people take that feedback positively.
When we talk about the mistake, we immediately find the mistakes of other individuals, and we forget that it can happen to anybody. It's human nature. So first try to figure out your mistakes and mention it to others, and then criticize and you will find that people take that criticism positively and they are no longer offended.

#24. The Magic of Thinking Big by David Schwartz

The Magic of Thinking Big was first published in 1959. The book which has sold over 4 million copies became the top entrepreneur book.
The point of “The Magic of Thinking Big” is having a different thought process that continually leads to success. It clarifies how your mind works and how you can tackle it to make progress as opposed to permitting it to torment you.
The famous quote from his classic is “A wise man is the master of his mind; A fool is a slave to his”
People often lose hope, sit back and believe that I am not meant for this, but the fact is when you don’t believe in yourself, how you can expect others can do. So believe in yourself, and one day you will achieve the success.
The next thing he explained in his book is, don’t be a flake in any way. Like Age (too old, young), Health (I am drained, or exhausted), insufficient knowledge (Don’t know how to do it). All these are lame excuses, which everyone must avoid. Always look for better, creative, way to complete any task. Never allow your brain to paralyze your thinking, so always look for the bigger picture.

Schwartz phrases it, 'go, first class', it means that always ask for the suggestion from successful people, spend some time with them’. You will also have the overall idea how they see the opportunities.
Schwartz has many more useful tips on how to think and act successfully:
  • Don't wait until conditions are perfect before starting something. They never will be. Act now.
  • Persistence is not a guarantee of success. Combine persistence with experimentation.
  • Walk 25 percent faster! Average people have a faster walk.

#25. The Millionaire Next Door - Thomas J. Stanley

Written by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko, The Millionaire Next Door: the Surprising Secrets of America's Wealthy was published in 1996 .
This is one of the most interesting business book because it is based on years of research, and on  statistics and case studies.
In this book, author narrates about the lifestyle of millionaires and also bust some popular myths. He came to this conclusion that millionaires live their lives in a simple manner.
Many people who earn a lot are not spending them without due consideration. They live hyper consumer ways of life, spending their cash as quick as they earn it. Most books concentrate on just a single side of the riches condition: spending less or acquiring more. It's invigorating to see a book that makes it clear that both facets are required to succeed.
The author segments people into two categories
  • High Income
  • Low Income
In both the categories, people face some problems, for instance, what happens when people lose money due to hyper consumer behavior. On the other hand people with low income people trying to include them in a high-income category.
Through the analysis and research, the author came up with this characteristic of people who were able to create wealth for themselves.
They find a way to spare cash. They don't live sumptuous ways of life. They're willing to pay for quality, yet not for image.

They picked the correct occupation. "Independently employed individuals are four times more inclined to become tycoons than the individuals who work for others".
